Maya's Personal Vision Statement

I wanted to share my vision statement, so I decided to post this on the blog.

I, Maya Hayashi, living at my highest and best, am confident, generous, modest, flexible and passionate. This is so that I can be a better person in interacting with others besides friendship. I would not always prefer these elements between friendships, but would rather prefer in social relations in the future I would have, such as at work. Although, the reason I think these are important is because I actually think that people who share these kind of elements seems attractive, not just as a working employee, but as a human being. As for me, the first thing I would like to achieve is to become confident in what I do. Eventually, I hope that I can become an ideal model for someone else, too.

Well, that's all for my vision statement!
Oh, and in addition…

At the end of every day, I wish to feel that I have been…
honest
modest
challenging
to things what I did that day.

Someday I hope to have…
a goal or a dream that I feel I really want to achieve, and accomplish the small tasks I assigned to myself. Also to live a satisfying life!

When I die…
well, I can't think of anything yet, but would like to remember that I had the best life! I guess…

Harvard Business Review

Harvard Business Review article explained specifically of how biology and leadership interacts. In the other article, it explained how other people around you and your own action change. I get attuned when I feel sympathy, but the person who talks has the ability to make others feel sympathy, it’s not like the content of the talk is convincing. The explanation of mirror neurons, and spindle-cell circuitry is totally new to me. It was interesting, because how people get interested in how the human biological functions work in leadership issues.
The article gives an example of a “Finely Attuned” leader. The person had problems such as aggressive, opinionated, lacking in political astuteness, and careless. It shows that social interaction is important as a leader, and as a member of the society, even if the person can do their work effectively. The women mentioned in the article eventually accomplished to improve.
Like these famous women executives in the world, they look so cool to me.

They seem to have the strong pose, and the good hand signs for their talk. They sure do look confident!
I read Sheryl Sandberg's "LEAN IN", and it did no actually mention about postures or facial expressions, but she always mentioned to lean in. She also said that one of the key points to her success is that she had good personal relations with her boss and colleagues, which means that communications and the character of the person becomes the key. As well as other executives, it seems that she is good at social intelligence or creating a friendly relation with others.
When I talk with someone, I tend to look in the opponent’s eyes, and look away once in a while. The eagerness will be more contagious if I tried to keep on looking in their eyes. That's one thing I should change, and for another, I often be told that I kind of have a scary first impression, because I don't smile much. After reading his article, I can actually realize what I need to change to have a better impression and how to interact. I better have an ideal image, to change my own social intelligence.
The posture and the facial expression seems to be hard to master.....

Strike a Powerful Pose

The LIlTDY class currently study on how we should pose when speaking in front of others, and how we should show our dignity(leadership) through posing or handshakes. From the article, Strike a Powerful Pose, it shows how power posing effect others and your own action. I realized that most people who are good speakers apply to the features given in the text. Although, the class had some practice to speak like that, but it wasn't easy. I imaged myself speaking confidently, copying the features of a good speaker, but it didn't go as I imaged. Now I can really tell why most executives have their own coach to teach them privately.
In the text, it also said that it is hard to break old body-language practice. For me, I have bad poses when speaking, so I have to put in mind to change my poses concsiousely. I think good speakers are attractive, and we can tell because many people gathers, and are moved. It can be acquired by practicing, so I think it is interesting.
